Journal of External Therapy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the only publication that distinctly features ¡°External Therapy¡± in China. With a clinical basis and a focus on application, the Journal aims to disseminate Chinese medicine by exchanging new experiences and delivering new information. Readers include medical practitioners and others interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Subscription requests and manuscript submissions are welcomed per the following details.
Column Design
The Journal includes columns entitled Theme Lecture; Theoretical Probe; Clinical Research; Experimental Research; Clinical Report; Garden of TCM and Western Medicine Integration; Specialized Essay; Experience of Senior TCM Practitioners; Free Discussion on Prescriptions; New Application of Set Prescriptions; Clinical Practice Experience; Plaster Treatment; Case Report; Folk Remedy; Short Report; and Introduction of Effective Prescription.
Basic Requirement
It is required that manuscripts are novel in conception and explicit in making the viewpoint. Genuine material, scientific methods, conclusive data, standard statistical expression, close clinical integration, and higher value in application are necessary. Authors are required to verify statistics such as dosages, case, and percentages cited in manuscripts. It is required that manuscripts be typed with all pages numbered consecutively. Word limit is no more than 4000 characters for theoretical or research theses; 5000 for lectures or summaries; and 2000 for clinical articles.
3£®Title
Institute and/or hospital in which the author is working, corresponding address, telephone, fax numbers, and email address of the author should be included. For multi-author manuscripts, list the authors¡¯ names numbered at the upper right and indicate names of work places and postal codes for each on the following line.
4. Abstract
An informative abstract of 100-300 words should accompany each research thesis. Abstracts should be structured into four sections: aim, method, result, and conclusion. If non-standard terms, abbreviations, and signs are applied, explanation is needed at their first appearance, using the third person. Declarative subjects such as ¡°I¡±, ¡°this article¡±, or ¡°the author¡± should be avoided.
5 Key Words
Please list 3-8 key words. Use those covered in the latest List of Medical Theme Words as much as possible. If there are no corresponding words in the current List, use the habitually applied words.
6.1 Words, Terms, Names of Persons, and TCM Terms
The usage of words should be standard. Simplified Chinese Characters are required for Chinese, and correct upper and lower case letters are required for English. Foreigners¡¯ names must be noted as per the original language. As for drugs¡¯ names, please consult standard names listed in Pharmacopoeia of P.R. China.
6.2 Tables and Illustrations
Tables and illustrations should be used where reasonable. Please use three-line tables for statistical tables. Associated illustrations should be drawn on sulphuric acid paper, following the body text. The appearance of tables or illustrations should be clean, explicit, and accurate with even and clear lines including explanatory notes, which are numbered in sequence in the body text and refer to tables or illustrations. Figures and Statistical Expressions
Figures should be shown using Three-Place Section Method. According to National Standard GB3358£82 ¡°Statistical Nouns and Expressions¡± , please express: 1) ¡°arithmetic mean of samples¡± as italicized small x (not M or X); 2) ¡°standard deviation¡± as italicized small s (not SD); 3£©¡°standard error¡± as italicized small sx (not SE or SEM); 4) ¡°test¡± as italicized small t ; 5) ¡°F test¡± as italicized small f; 6) ¡°chi square test¡± as italicized small ¦Ö2; 7£©¡°related coefficient¡± as italicized small r; 8) ¡°degree of freedom¡± as italicized small v; 9) ¡°probability¡± as italicized small p;10) ¡°sample number¡± as italicized small italicized small n.
7. References
Cited references should mainly be drawn from journals published at home and abroad in recent years and read by authors in person. It is desirable to have 5-15 references relating to professional works and 15-25 references relating to summaries. References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. When the cited authors are no more than three, list all of them; when more than three, list the first three authors, followed by ¡°et. al¡±. Names should be separated by commas. Each item in references, excluding internal reference material, should be comprehensive; the format of which is as follows ---
Periodicals: author, title, name of the journal, year, volume (issue), and beginning page-ending page
Books: author (editor-in-chief)£¬title, name of the book, edition number, publishing agency, publishing year, and beginning page-ending page
8. Brief Introduction of Authors
The name of the author, place of work, postal code, corresponding address, and telephone number should be attached at the end of the manuscript, including a brief introduction of the first author stating name, gender, age, birthplace, graduation year and alma mater, professional title, and research concentration.
9.1 Manuscripts should be approved by the author¡¯s employer with a letter of introduction to certify the authenticity of the manuscript. Do not submit such manuscript simultaneously elsewhere.
9.2 Those manuscripts will enjoy publishing priority with relation to technological achievements, inventions, and projects sponsored by foundations. Please provide certifications concerned and notify at the lower left of the title.
9.3 Neither the Editors nor the Publisher is responsible for the opinions expressed by contributors. Rights to correct and cancel part of manuscripts are reserved. Authors will be notified relating to original meaning revision. It is regarded as manuscript withdrawal when articles to be revised fail to be returned by the author within two months.
9.4 The manuscript processing period is four months, beyond which time manuscripts can be submitted elsewhere. Authors should retain one copy of the text, tables, photographs and illustrations, as rejected manuscripts will not be returned to the authors.
